Happy St. Patrick’s Day – have fun, but please be careful and do not drink and drive

St. Patrick's Day

Today is St. Patrick’s Day – a day of fun, good food and reverie. We all have the chance to be Irish on this day, whether our ancestors are from the Emerald Island or not.

Unfortunately, St. Patrick’s Day also ranks among the most popular days of the year for Americans consuming large amounts of alcohol. According to the yearly statistics published on WalletHub, St. Patrick’s Day ranks as the 4th most popular drinking day in the United States; only surpassed by Christmas, Independence Day and New Year’s Eve.

According to the website’s findings, 30 people were killed in drunk driving accidents over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period in 2015. And a whopping 75% of automobile accidents on the average St. Patrick’s Day involve a driver who has consumed at least 2 times the legal alcohol limit. You can check out all of the interesting statistics that Wallethub compiled this year here:

And in another recent St. Patrick’s Day article related to too much drinking, more people tend to binge drink over this period than usual, which leads to an increased rate of DUI and death from alcohol poisoning.
